Shaving Woes

Shaving cream is the most common lubricant and generally cheaper than gel or lotion and is highly preferred because of its foamy texture. (Those with dry skin, coarse hair or hard-to-shave hair growing in several directions may find this helpful.)

Shaving gel on the other hand is slightly runnier but it comes in a variety of scents, making it well suited for fragrance layering.

Shaving lotion does not foam but is thicker than gel or cream. It is best suited for people with dry skin and are usually more moisturising than other variants.

Whether you prefer cream, gel or lotion, all 3 forms of lubrication serve the same purpose of making shaving smoother and easier. They were developed to suit different individuals and so, choice depends largely on personal preference and skin care needs. So to cream or not to cream?

Shaving creams in general serve the same purpose for men and women. For the latter however, the lubricant is used on a larger surface area like arms and legs. Unlike facial skin, nicks and cuts are less likely to occur since the skin is firmer and has fewer tendencies to wrinkle. This justifies why many women prefer soap to shaving cream as it works as well as lubricant and is much cheaper.

Still, depending on skin types and preferences, it may be a good idea to use shaving creams instead. Other than providing better lubrication, shaving creams are less likely to clog shavers and this rids the irritating problem of having to unclog hair from shaver heads after every swipe.

Further more, shaving needs to be done almost daily so it is important to ensure skin remains supple. This makes it easier to shave in the long run while preventing nicks and cuts at the same time.
